The
challenge.
Volta had grown from a startup to a national network in four years, but its brand hadn't kept pace. The identity felt technical and cold, retail partners struggled to apply it consistently, and customers couldn't tell Volta apart from a dozen competitors on the forecourt.
Creative
strategy.
We rebuilt the brand from the ground up around a single idea: energy in motion. The strategy repositioned Volta from infrastructure provider to movement maker — a brand that stands for momentum, confidence and the everyday shift to clean energy. Naming architecture, messaging and tone of voice followed, giving every touchpoint one unmistakable signal.
Design
process.
We began with three weeks of immersion: riding along with field engineers, interviewing drivers at motorway chargers and auditing every customer touchpoint from app to signage. The insight was immediate — people don’t care about charging technology, they care about going places.
The identity system translates that insight into form. A custom variable wordmark stretches and compresses like current through a cable, anchored by a single high-voltage accent colour that owns the forecourt from fifty metres away. A modular grid system gave retail and facilities partners a kit of parts they could apply without training, from pylon wraps to wayfinding to the in-app experience.
The rollout was phased over six months: flagship sites first, then the national network, supported by a living brand portal with motion templates, print specs and a signage production toolkit. The result is an identity that feels inevitable — like Volta has always looked this way.
